The time is now

The Greek language has two key words for two different kinds of time -- chronos and kairos. Chronos is flat time, the tick-tock of time, the chronological succession of moments from one to another, the way we usually think about time, its regular measurement in past, present, and future. Kairos, on the other hand, has to do with the unique quality of particular moments, as when we say, "the time is right", the opportune moment for a particular thing to happen. A kairos moment is deep time, time loaded with potential, ripe with possibilities. In kairos time, if the chance is taken, if the moment isn't missed, breakthroughs can happen, history is made. Now is kairos time in our country, when souls suddenly awaken to voices heretofore muted, previously scattered or unable to gain traction, voices now clearly heard demanding change, real, meaningful change like we haven't seen in decades, even a generation.
